The aromas of boysenberry, black plum and candied orange rind along with subtle spice notes of cassis, sassafras and mulling spices continue on to form a rich expressive palate. The fruit is accented by additional flavors of dark chocolate and hazelnut.
The fruit for our 2007 Syrah comes primarily from a small vineyard in Oak Knoll District located on the Oak Knoll Cross Road near the winery. The vineyard is planted on gravelly, loam soil in climate conditions that are influenced by warm up-valley heat that is tempered by cool fog rolling in from the San Pablo Bay to the south. The result is a well balanced, elegant Syrah with aromatic complexity, bright acidity and lingering flavors. A small portion of this syrah blend came from a vineyard in Coombsville, located south of the Oak Knoll District which contributes mulberry fruit character and spice.
This Syrah is a favorite food wine that goes well with most savory dishes even spicier fare such as barbeque ribs or Indian masala.

Gene Says "I confess, I have a personal passion for syrah. This means I drink a number of them and I know a good one when I taste it. The 2007 Black Stallion Oak Knoll Syrah is superb . . . redolent of fat, juicy blackberries, black currants and plums. This wine easily makes the journey from Barbecue to short ribs, to elegant white tablecloth without missing a beat." - Gene Burns, Local talk show host of KGO's Dining Around.
